At the beginning of the fall, I had a bunch of figs left over that my mom had brought me. I’d never had fresh figs before, but found some creative ways to use them. My favorite recipe so far has been the Fig Bruschetta, but I also created this candied fig sauce as a topper for my waffles in the morning.
The waffles that I made were a straight Bisquick recipe, but I wanted something other than syrup to top them with. I often get tired of using the store-bought maple syrup and I go looking for fruit alternatives. The candied figs were the perfect addition to my favorite breakfast.
- 12 Fresh Figs
- 1½ Cup White Sugar
- 1 cup water
- Cut your figs in quarters and throw into a saucepan on low heat.
- Add the sugar and water and stir for approximately 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour over the top of your waffles.
